Team Organization

MARS Team Flow Chart

At the August 24, 2006 meeting members voted on a final revision to the team's organization. After one minor change it was approved. Most team leaders for the 2007 season were elected. Some positions are still up in the air, but here is the approved, almost complete, team organization chart. NOTE: Darker bordered boxes reflect a leadership role for one student. Boxes with a thin border indicate that the work is accomplished by a subteam of students.

The chart can be seen in Adobe PDF format here or in Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) here.

MARS Organizational Structure

The Team Captain leads club efforts and oversees managers who direct the team’s three distinct areas of focus.

  • The Robot Manager supervises technical issues, including electrical/coding, mechanical, and Inventor subteams.
  • An Awards Manager oversees efforts by the writing, website, and animation subteams.
  • A Support Manager coordinates fundraising, community service, media, spirit and strategy/scouting subteams.

Skills are shared between subteams, necessitating strong team communication, interactivity and overall support. Adult mentors facilitate student efforts. Exploration and involvement in multiple areas of interest are promoted and there are many leadership opportunities. Participation in up to 3 subteams is allowed and a member with at least one year's experience on the team may hold one lead role. Leads of subteams are elected, or when necessary appointed. Members are encouraged to make specific team role or work placement requests.
