Future Help Wanted
The FIRST Robotics Competition (F.R.C.) is about more than building a robot. Sure, MARS needs members who enjoy drafting, welding, machining and assembly work. Building a competative, robust robot is one of our goals. But we also need members who enjoy writing, wearing the color red, cheering, computer programming, and website design. Several awards can be won though, and the one with the greatest prestige is called the "Chairman's Award". It recognizes the team that shows the greatest effort toward achieving FIRST's ultimate mission of changing the way young people regard science and technology, including inspiring an appreciation for the real-life rewards and career opportunities in these fields. Judges look for excellence in all areas including:
- Marketing/ Entrepreneurial Spirit
- Community Outreach/ Public Relations
- Leadership
- Team Organization
- Journalism/ Writing
- Creative Design
- Team Spirit
- Outstanding Sportsmanship
- Animation Skills using 3D Max
- Website Design

How to Join MARS Team 1523
In the beginning of each school year the team recruits new members. In addition to having an interest in science and technology, perspective students must be willing to participate in team fundraising and community outreach activities. MARS meets year round, however the frequency of meetings varies greatly. A significant increase in meetings occurs during the build/competition season (January - March). You can contact Mr. Sagen (for Dwyer Students) or Mr. Volk (for Jupiter students) if you are interested in joining MARS. E-mail us at team1523@gmail.com saying you're interested, and we'll give you more info.
1. On-Line Student and Adult MARS Member Applications
New Members are required to complete an on-line application. Returning members are asked to complete the form as well this year so that all data is in our new data base. Students and Mentors can find the application here:
http://www.marsbot.org/survey/index.php?sid=1&newtest=Y
2. Signed Team Expectations for Members Form
In addition to completing an on-line application, students must fill out the M.A.R.S. Team 1523 2006 Team Expectations for Members form, returning it with their guardian's signature.
3. Team Member General Rules
All perspective members need to review the team's rules and be familiar with them. Students are reminded that representing Jupiter High School and the team's corporate sponsors through involvement in MARS Robotics is an honor, priveledge and responsibility.
